The state of New Jersey Department of Human Services and Department of
Developmental Disabilities approved our Adult Day Program. An outline of
the program follows.
Mission Statement:
To provide individuals over the age of 21, who
are differently abled, the opportunity to participate in a Performing Arts
Workshop. Participants will engage
in a program that includes vocational skills, personal development, life skills
and community involvement. In
addition, they will bring their performance to the community in order to
celebrate diversity and encourage all to see abilities not disabilities.
Vocational Skills:
- Identify and operate office equipment including fax, phone, computer,
printer, photocopier and scanner.
- Identify office supplies
- Learn basic
industrial and safety laws
- Learn business
terminology
- Follow office
policies and procedures
- Learn to fill out
a job application form on paper and online
- Prepare a resume
- Practice interview skills
- Learn job searching skills
- Learn telephone skills – making business calls and receiving business calls
- Learn how to put together a flyer and program to promote their performances
- Learn how to do research on the computer
Personal Development:
- Improve self- knowledge to develop talent, potential and employability
- Improve speech skills, eye contact, body language and the ability to communicate feelings,
needs, etc in a positive manner.
- Improve personal appearance and hygiene

Life Skills:

Attend learning experiences:
- Movie theater – meet with manager for tour of all aspects of running a theater
- Live performing arts center – meet with staff for tour of all aspects of running a live theater
- Museums – attend an educational program
- Library – meet with librarian, tour library and observe their computer operation
- Businesses – visit
local businesses and observe the similarities/differences in their office
management
Performing Arts Program:
- Together with the
artistic director and choreographer, the participants will put together a 30
minute show with dancing, sign language and dialogue.
- The show will be
performed at regular and special needs schools as a diversity program.
- Participants will
be involved in every aspect of production which will included:
- Show development
- Writing dialogue
- Laying out program in computer
- Print/fold/assemble programs
- Contacting schools via phone calls and mail
- Assemble a mailing and email list
- Assist in travel arrangements to schools
- Greet faculty at schools
- Participate (dance, sign language, speak) during performance
- Participate in a question and answer session after performance
Staff/Client Ratio: 10-12:2 Program will run Tuesday,
Wednesday, Thursday from 9:30 – 1:30 beginning September 2011
Charge per day: $97.00
Description of Facility:
Meaningful Movement, Inc. is
located at 6 Godwin Plaza in Midland Park, NJ 07432
It is a 625 sq.ft. storefront. There is a waiting area, office, bathroom and the majority of the
facility is an all purpose room. It is located on a main road (Godwin Ave.) with the parking lot off the main road.
There are two entrances at either end of the studio. There is a large front window making the studio bright. There is a front entrance as well
as a back entrance to the studio. It is well maintained and very clean.
Staff:
Michele Campbell, CAPE holds a New
Jersey and National certification in Adapted Physical Education. She has a
Bachelor of Arts degree and holds an AAS in Physical Therapy Assisting. Michele is the Founder/Executive Director of Meaningful Movement, Inc.
which has been serving students with Spina Bifida, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular
Dystrophy, Autism, Learning Challenges, Downs Syndrome and a variety of other
challenges for 21 years.
Marie Nordyke, RN holds a Bachelor
of Science degree in Education. She
also holds an AAS in Nursing. Marie has been the choreographer for the
Meaningful Movements Dance Company for 16 years.
She is also the choreographer for our Junior Dance Company.
In addition to her teaching and choreographing duties at Meaningful
Movements,Marie is the choreographer for a local high school musical and a
part-time school nurse in Paterson.
